Local Information

The Cairngorms area needs little introduction being one of the most beautiful and sought after holiday destinations in Scotland. Visitors are drawn to this outstanding area by its beauty and by the huge variety of activities and attractions to enjoy.
It has long been recognised that the magnificent beauty of the area should be protected and so in 2003 The Cairngorms National Park was established. It is the now largest national park in the UK and is one of the country's most special and cared for landscapes.
The area was voted as one of the top 20 places to visit in the world by National Geographic Traveller Magazine. It contains some of Scotland's highest mountains and the country's largest ski areas.

One of these, Cairngorm Mountain, is on our doorstep and as Scotland’s first ski resort it offers skiing and snowboarding over the winter months with an endless amount of ski touring routes. Throughout the year visitors and locals alike enjoy the mountain for hill-walking and biking.

The area is also known for the wide variety of wildlife from Ospreys at Loch Garten to Red Squirrels and Pine Martens in the surrounding forests and, even better, we have these right here in the Cairngorms Lodge’s own gardens along with rabbits and pheasants and many, many other species. Visit the local Cairngorm Reindeer at Glenmore or if you’re feeling less energetic take a stroll out from Cairngorms Lodge to see the deer and the really impressive Highland Cattle on our neighbouring fields on the Rothiemurchus estate. Families with young children can enjoy biking from the house into the surrounding paths in the woods where even more wildlife hang out, including badgers. In fact you can begin your walk or cycle onto many of the famous tracks directly from the house.

Our guests love the special feeling of privacy and tranquility that this beautiful house and garden provide. They also love that they can reach the countless other attractions so easily. The village of Aviemore which is about a mile away has a huge variety of cafes, restaurants and shops. It has a large swimming pool, gym, spa facilities, a cinema and a championship golf course.
